Jerseys for turkeys

Stroud Tigers:

The Stroud High School football team is on a mission to collect turkeys from the community to donate to the Stroud Food Pantry. In exchange, you can get a retired gameday jersey.

Coach Josh Presley said he was sitting in church when the idea came to him, though it had been on his mind for almost a full year.

“I thought it would be something cool to give back. Try to do something for the community that people in need could benefit from,” he said, adding that he thought it would be cool to offer surplus jerseys. “(It’s) Something we could do to try to swap out a turkey for a jersey so everybody wins.”

The football coach said the team doesn’t have a goal in mind, but they hope to get as many turkeys as they can. Also, they have several years of jerseys to hand out.

“We have a lot of jerseys from several years… I’ve already had several old players reach out to me, and it’s kind of cool,” he said.

Those who wish to donate a turkey to receive an old gameday jersey can do so on Mondays through Fridays until Nov. 21. Just drop them off at the high school football weight room, located in the northeast corner of the football field, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The turkeys will be handed over to the Stroud Food Pantry to keep cool, and then on Nov. 25, the pantry will hand them out to its clients.
