Christmas festivities are underway, with many towns in the area gearing up. The following activities are set to go on throughout the month of December.
Stroud
Stroud’sannualChristmasparade is set to take place on Dec. 6, heading down Main Street. The parade will start at 6 p.m. and has the theme of Storybook Christmas. Businesses and organizations are invited to take part and the following awards will be given out for floats: Classic Tale, Most Enchanting, Reason for the Season and Most Magical.
The day after, on Dec. 7, entries for the Gingerbread House ContestaredueattheOldStroud Trading Post. Contestants can drop them off between 2 and 4 p.m. Only one entry is allowed per family. Public voting will take place from Dec. 8 to 12, with the winners announced on Dec. 17 at the Reindeer Event.
On Dec. 11, there will be a ChristmasCookieWalkthrough downtown Stroud from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can take the chance to vote on your favorite gingerbread house while enjoying cookies from local businesses.
Chandler
Chandler is set to host its annual tree lighting and Christmas parade festival on Dec. 6. Events kick off at 1 p.m. with the Holiday Market at the Museum of Pioneer History. There will be children’s arts and crafts inside the courthouse from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., along with face painting, a hot chocolate bar, and gingerbread house making. There will be opportunities to take photos with Pistol Pete and Santa Claus throughout the night, as well as chances to donate to the God & People’s Pantry food drive.
The Chamber Bucks drawing will take place at the judges’ stand at 6 p.m., while the Chandler school choirs will perform on the courthouse lawn from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parade will take place at 7:30 p.m., with the tree-lighting and fireworks to follow immediately after in front of the courthouse. Certain downtown businesses will stay open late for Christmas shopping. Agra
Agra has several community Christmas events coming up. On Dec. 6, they will have their annual tree-lighting event at the Agra Senior Center. It starts at 5 p.m. and you can bring an ornament to add to the tree and take photos with Santa.
On Dec. 10,Agra First Baptist Church will be having caroling at6p.m.TheAgraPublicSchool Christmas Program will be held at 6 p.m., involving students from Pre-K up through high school. And on Dec. 21, the First Baptist Church will host its Christmas Program at 6 p.m.
Wellston
Wellston is hosting its annual Route 66 Christmas Market and Parade on Dec. 13. The market will kick off at 4 p.m. with the parade following at 6 p.m. At the same time, American Legion Post 61 will be hosting at Holiday Silent Auction at its building, where you can bid on gift baskets, items and goodies. Meeker Meeker is hosting its annual ChristmasparadeonDec.6.The theme is Cowboy Christmas. Floats line up at 5:30 p.m., and the parade will start at 6 p.m. There will be prizes for first, second and third place. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos after the parade. Prior to that, the Meeker Public Library will be hosting a Christmas Bake Sale starting at 4 p.m.
Davenport
Davenport will host the Nighttime Christmas Parade on Broadway on Dec. 13. The theme for this year’s parade is Nostalgic Christmas Movies. The parade will take place at 6 p.m. and North Park festivities will follow at around 6:45 or 7 p.m. There will be caroling, customer appreciation drawings, hot chocolate and cookies, plus pictures with Santa.
Carney
Santa is coming to Carney on Dec. 13. He’ll be visiting Carney First Assembly Church on Maple Ave. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Every child who attends will receive a gift.
McLoud
McLoud will be hosting its annual Shop the Block and tree lighting festival on Dec. 6 on Broadway and Main. Things kick off at 4 p.m. with Shop the Block, followed by the tree lighting at 6 p.m. Downtown stores will stay open late and Santa and the Grinch will be available for photos at the Mercantile.
