Applications open for scholarships

The Oklahoma Hall of Fame has opened up applications for its annual Oklahoma Scholarship Competition. According to a press release from the organization, more than $770,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants are available.

The competition is open to students in grades 9 through 12 at Oklahoma high schools. The students will take a one-hour, online exam administered in March that tests their knowledge of Oklahoma history, geography and its people. The top scores from each county will receive either a cash scholarship or a tuition grant to an accredited Oklahoma college or university, the release said.

At least 10 scholarships are available in every county. Last year, a total of 130 students across the state received scholarships, according to the press release.

To take part in the competition, students should register by Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. Registration is available on the Oklahoma Hall of Fame’s website. The testing window will open from March 6 to March 22.

Students who win scholarships will be invited to attend the Scholarship Awards Assembly on April 22 at the Gaylord-Pickens Musuem, the release said.
