Congratulations to the Rock Café on being chosen by the Route 66 Centennial Commission to be featured on one of the Centennial billboards on Turner Turnpike. The billboard reads “100 Years of Neon” and the one located by Stroud features the Rock’s neon sign and it lights up. These are exciting times for Stroud and the State of Oklahoma.
Speaking of neon, another great historic neon sign is the Skyliner Motel’s sign. They are going to celebrate their grand opening February 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Charles Palmer, Cody Paige and their crew have been working hard to get it ready to celebrate the Centennial. They have worked so hard and put in such long hours that every time I drive by it makes me feel guilty that I can’t swing a hammer or plumb a sink just to help them. Congratulations guys on a job well done.
Little League Baseball sign-up is quickly coming to a close. If you haven’t signed up, the deadline to do so is February 14th. If you have signed up but haven’t paid, you may pay through Venmo, CashApp or at Macco Promotions in Stroud. Cost is $60.
Due to incoming severe weather, the Route 66 Conference tournament consolation brackets had to be cancelled. The Stroud Tiger boys’ high school team was defeated by Chandler on Wednesday but beat Meeker by a score of 51-43 on Thursday so they would have advanced to the final consolation game. The Lady Tigers beat Chandler on Wednesday advancing them to the next round of the championship bracket but lost to Prague on Thursday. Weather permitting, the Tiger teams will travel to Seminole on Friday night to take on the Chieftains. Junior Varsity games are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. You might want to check with the high school to verify the game is still on Friday.

After all this snow melts, our local businesses are going to need to see some customers. I heard the City of Stroud has done a good job of clearing our streets but just getting out of the house can be difficult for some. This snow has to melt before Valentine’s Day, or we’ve got a lot of beaus who are going to be in trouble. Let our local merchants help you stay out of the “dog house.” Thanks, as always, for choosing to shop local……………. first!
