Wellston Town Board dissolves emergency management

The Town Board of Wellston voted to dissolve its emergency management division at its regular meeting on May 21.

After going into executive session to discuss the issue, the Trustees made a motion to dissolve the division and allow Lincoln County Emergency Management to take over. They will then “figure things out” and get the division going again, with Board Trustee Paul Whitnah saying it’s a temporary move. “We don’t know how long this temporary will be. We’ve got some things we need to do,” he said in the meeting. It was also noted that the move was not directed at any one person. The Town Board approved a building permit on Ash St. for a manufactured home and a contract with Countryside Veterinary regarding strays or animals at large. The Trusteese also approved a special event permit for Big Bang Fireworks Show for June 26 and the appointment of Terry Leslie as cemetery caretaker and sexton.

The Board tabled any action on the issue of speeding on Bills Drive until City Attorney Billy Wheeler returns. They plan to communicate with Wheeler over the following few days and possibly hold a special meeting to vote on a solution.

In the Wellston Public Works Authority (WPWA) meeting that took place before the Board of Trustees meeting, the Authority approved the use of state ARPA funds through ORWB to pay for $67,774 of the AMI/AMR installation. The WPWA also approved a change order for funds from the service agreement switch to replace up to 350 meter boxes with lids for up to $30,000, and putting Treasurer Derek Moody on the new WPWA debit card as the representative.

The WPWAtabled action on setting up a trash-only deposit amount for customers within the Homestead at Spring Creek addition in order to discuss it with Wheeler.
