The Prague School Board approved a PO increase for Keystone and repairs to the current wrestling room at its regular meeting on Sept. 14, among other items, according the meeting minutes.
The Board approved an increase of $10,500 to PO#34 for Keystone, taking it from $261,622.80 to $272,122.80. It also approved repairs to the wall in the wrestling room not to exceed $7,000.
In the superintendent’s report, Superintendent James Payne reported that the construction meeting held that afternoon on the high school went well and they will begin drilling piers this week. The hope is that they will not case them, which will save the district approximately $150,000 to $175,000.
Payne also reported that the Aviation Class at the high school was donated a flight simulator. With the help of Matt Kinslow, the students are now using the simulator in the classroom. He also presented a handout to the Board for the Care Center, which will train kindergarten through second-grade students on how to have a voice in cases of abuse. The curriculum will be going home to parents, who will have the option to opt out.
Payne and Bryna Anderson reported on elementary special education (SPED) students, who are now among their peers and not located by the daycare. Anderson reported that she has “seen these students blossom and has also seen a positive change in all students” having them together. The SPED students now have easier access to classrooms and ramps, and are playing on a fenced-in playground that isn’t by a road. They also have access to a sensory room, behavior room and academic room.
Payne also addressed the walkway at the elementary school underground from the cafeteria, which has pallets put out when it rains. This will be discussed at the October regular board meeting. He also addressed the windows on the south side of the high school, saying they needed blinds. He is applying for a grant to get a bulletproof film or tint on those windows for safety.
The Board approved the Estimate of Needs for FY 2027 and Child Nutrition Meals rates for FY27 at $3 for adult breakfast and $5.30 for adult lunch. Four adjunct teachers were also approved for SY27 -- Adisyn Auld (eighth grade science), Korey Walker (World History), Jenna McGill (fifth grade) and Ashley Cooper (Middle Level English).
In the consent agenda, the Board approved minutes from the Aug. 10 and 18 meetings, fundraiser requests, approval for use of Board Member digital signatures on employee contracts, an out-of-state trip for a pom team competition and policies on Tobacoo, Wellness and Student Transfers. They also approved Emcumberances for FY27 (General Fund - $45,916.44), Building Fund ($5,561.14), Payroll ($555,762.24) and Building/ Technology Bond 32 ($314).
