A funeral service will be held for Frank Duane Mathes of Stroud at 2 p.m., today, December 5, 2019, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Stroud with Paul Coffee officiating. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
Mathes was born November 27, 1946, in Stroud and died Saturday, November 30, 2019, in Oklahoma City.
He was 73 years old.
The son of Frank C. and Betrice (Miller) Mathes, he was married to his wife Patty Mathes on May 20, 1981.
His career in law enforcement included the Stroud Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office serving as a deputy and undersheriff before being elected sheriff in 1996. After that, he worked as a pumper for Gordon Oil and Cano Petroleum before retiring to full-time ranching.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Joann Rill.
Survivors include his wife Patty of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Erin Mathes and Danny Mathes, all of Davenport; three daughters, Darla Mathes, Patricia Mathes-Kerr and husband Michael, all of Chandler and Katherine “Katie” White of Vinita, Okla.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
