Town Talk

Town Talk hosted another successful Farmer’s Market last Saturday. Thanks again to Town Talk volunteer Mandy Clark for all her hard work. If you haven’t checked out the Market be sure and come shop with us in August. There’s a wide variety of things for sale, from plants to vegetables to homemade dog treats.

This month I enjoyed homemade lemon blackberry scones made by two darling elementary students from Prague and Paden. Cousins Makenzie Plett and Sherissa Banman had the idea of opening their own pop-up business, The Blackberry Shack. They picked and made blackberry jellies and scones and sold fresh blackberries. See what you’re missing if you don’t visit our local market.

Thanks to everyone who helped with Town Talk’s public restroom project by donating to the cause. Thank you to locals Leon & Vivian Henshaw, Kevin & Shelly Garrett, Lyndon & Lisa Patton, Thelma Mauldin, Lavina Hinman and out-of-town alums Gary & Debbie Willis Austin, Brad & Jean Anne Witty, David & Angie Kircher, George and Bobbie Unglesby Langley, Tom & Janet Place Huwar, Kenneth & Sharon Bond Davidson and Gary & Donna Asford Dundee.

Also, thank you to everyone who purchased a chance on our American flag flowerpots, purchased one of them or bought a Tiger license plate. Town Talk could not have reached their goal of $10,000 without each of you. Oklahoma Beautiful donated the first $2,000 to kick things off so we have now completed fund raising for another project for our community. The City of Stroud will build the restrooms for our Main Street Pavilion.

My husband, Larry and I, enjoyed having dinner in Bartlesville last Saturday night with Stroud alums and Bartlesville residents, Carl and Harriet Terry Johns. Harriet had purchased a Tiger license plate so I delivered it to her over dinner. Larry might have been a little bored but I enjoyed reminiscing about old Stroud days with the Johns. Carl & Harriet are loyal Stroud and Town Talk supporters.

The Stroud Lefler-Linihan American Legion Post #257 has a new commander, Michael Horwath. He takes over from Commander Chuck Quinn. A big thank you to Chuck for his leadership and service to the Legion and thank you to all our veterans for their service to our great country.

It’s hard to believe it’s time to think about going back to school but August is right around the corner. Be sure and check out our local merchants for all your back-to-school needs. As always, remember to shop and dine local………first!
