Spending a good weekend at the lake

Recently, my wife Pat and I and little pooch Bailey journeyed down to our place at Lake Eufaula.

It was the third time for us to go there for a weekend this year.

But this weekend will be etched in my and Pat’s minds forever. Our daughter Meghan, her husband Terry and their son Liam, our grandson, also came down.

It’s the very first trip to the lake for Liam, who will turn 2 at the end of this month. That is what made this weekend so special having him there for the first time ever and also Meghan and Terry too.

Our good friends Gary and Charlotte Barnett, who have a trailer right next to ours, also joined us. Meg and Terry know Charlotte and Gary pretty well.

As I’ve mentioned before, Liam is busy, busy. He likes going from one thing to another in a matter of a few minutes.

I enjoy watching him as he moves about. He keeps us entertained and on our toes.

We didn’t get in the lake during this trip at all. There was some thought about letting Liam take his first boat ride. We opted not to do that. We haven’t found a life jacket yet to fit him, but that will come in time.

We generally had good weather. There was plenty of sunshine. It was a little hotter and more humid than the two previous trips this spring and summer. There wasn’t much of a breeze on Saturday, so in the sun it was really warm.

There is a certain place in Eufaula we all really like for lunch. It’s one of Meghan’s favorites. She and Terry have joined us several times over the past few years.

So all of us ate there on Saturday.

There was some type of festival going on in Eufaula on Saturday. A number of boats were having a poker run on Saturday and I think bikers were having one as well.

Later Saturday afternoon, Meghan and Terry had the chance to get away by themselves and go into Eufaula and Checotah and we watched Liam while they were gone.

On Sunday, we all had breakfast together. A little later that morning, Terry got off and was able to cast a line a few times in the lake but didn’t have any luck.

Some other friends, Brian Nipper and his wife Dena, dropped by and visited for a while that morning and we all enjoyed visiting.

About mid-afternoon, it was time for Meghan, Terry and Liam to head back to Norman and for us to trek back to Shawnee.

It was an enjoyable weekend at the lake with family and good friends.

With everything that has been going the past few months, this is one of the safer places to be we think.

It was one of those weekends that you don’t want to end.

It was the first time for Liam to be at the lake and we hope there are many more trips just like it.
