Davenport High School alumni officers announced the plans for the 2021 DHS Alumni Reunion. With the theme “Let’s Fiesta,” events will be held Saturday, May 8, marking the 100th anniversary of the DHS Alumni Reunion.
Activities are planned to coordinate with the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Nettie Davenport Day observance. The event is held in honor of Nettie Davenport, who was Davenport’s first postmaster and the one who named the town. The post office was established in her log cabin on March 29, 1892. It is the second oldest post office in the county.
Several retail vendors and food trucks will be downtown on Alumni Day starting at 9:30 a.m. Parade line up will be 10:30 a.m. on 4th Street on the south side of the school. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. traveling down Broadway.
The Chamber of Commerce Appreciation Days prize drawings will be held following the parade in front of the fire station. After the prize drawings, children can take part in games and contests, sack races and foot races sponsored by the Davenport Masonic Lodge at the park downtown.
At noon, the annual horseshoe pitching tournament will be held at the community fairgrounds. For more information about the tournament, call Nick Thompson at (918) 290-0086.
The Alumni Banquet will be 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria with catering done by Ted’s Café Escondido of Oklahoma City. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
