Former student donates kidney

It’s not often that students get to be heroes to their teachers. For English teacher Carol Oswalt, that’s exactly what happened when a former student stepped up and offered to donate a kidney. “It’s pretty amazing,” she said while tearing up. “I loved her when I had her as a student.

Lions of the month announced

Colton Burbach and Ashlee Beatty have been named the February Lions of the Month by the Lions Club. Colton Burbach is a senior at Chandler High School and in his second year of the computer networking technology program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.

Trial set for Sparks man

A jury trial has been scheduled for the ongoing jury term for a Sparks man charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors. Formal felony charges were filed May 4, 2022 in Lincoln County District Court against James Leonard Smothers, 41 following his arrest by Lincoln County deputies.

Early voting for Carney, Prague

Early voting begins Thursday, Feb. 8, for voters in the Carney Public School and Prague Public School Board of Education election. Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day, have the option of voting early at their County Election Board.

Plea bargain in murder case

A Harrah man charged nearly three years ago with first degree murder, has pleaded guilty and has been handed a life suspended sentence with all but the first 25 years suspended. Cole Berginer Guy, 19 at the time, and now 22, was formally charged Feb.

Hearings set for Prague couple

Preliminary hearings have been sent for a Prague couple facing child neglect and drug charges after they had brought their child into the hospital and reportedly were intoxicated. Charged with felony child neglect are Devon C. Rodriguez, 32 and Camille Breean Akins, 30.

Davenport man sentenced

A Davenport man charged with two felonies in separate cases has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to prison. He’s also pleaded either guilty or entered no contest pleas in three other cases and has drawn prison and jail time to run concurrently.
