Dale heads to state in baseball

The Dale Pirates, fresh off of another Regional championship, begin action Thursday (today) in the state Class 2A baseball tournament. The Pirates, sporting an overall season record of 26- 3, will take on Hartshorne at 4 p.m. at Palmer Field at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.

COVID cases tick slightly upward

The number of new cases in the area attributed to COVID-19 has jumped a little in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. There have been no new deaths in Pottawatomie County but there has been one in Lincoln County since the last report.

Dale and North Rock Creek were rained out in the state slow pitch tournament Tuesday and were playing in a rescheduled one-day state meet on Wednesday at the Firelake complex south of Shawnee.

Area golfers qualify for state tournament

Golfers from Chandler, Stroud, Prague and North Rock Creek qualified for state. Elle Standlee and Maggie Smith from Prague qualified for the Class 2A girls tournament, which started Wednesday at the Cimarron Golf Course in Guthrie. It concludes on Thursday.

Stroud, Dale and North Rock Creek won district slow pitch championships last week and moved into the regional tournaments. If they win or finish second in their regionals, they will advance to state. The 18-4 Lady Tigers play Washington at Washington at 1 p.m. Thursday in their Class 4A regional.

A Meeker High School softball player has been selected for the Oklahoma Native All State Girls Softball Team. Kaycee Babek, a senior, will play at the Oklahoma Native All State Association game in June at Okmulgee.

Stroud, McLoud win titles

There is dominance on the softball field, and then there is what the Stroud Lady Tigers did in the 66 Conference tournament last week.
