I was mowing a bit over the weekend and planting a few things. It was hot and It was hot and humid, but I didn’t know how hot and how humid until I was leaning over a tub and realized I had big drops of sweat rolling off my face every three or four seconds and splashing into the potting soil.

We knew this day would come. It was imminent and it was inevitable. A week ago Monday was a very sad day in the McCormick household. We had to take our pooch Bailey to the vet and have her put to sleep. She brought us a lot of joy during all the years we had her.

Preliminary hearing in homicide

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for two men facing first degree murder charges in the death of a Midwest City man last September. First degree murder charges against Steven Roberts, 55, and Virgil Earl Nelson, 67 were filed Dec. 21, 2021.

Chandler’s new City Manager Jason Orr has been in his position going on three weeks now and says, “I love it. It’s one of the most hospitable towns I’ve been in. “You can hear it in people’s voices. I really like small town charm and I think it’s a good fit for me,” he added.

Former Tryon officials charged

Three former officials with the City of Tryon face embezzlement and conspiracy charges as the result of a special investigative audit released three months ago. Bench warrants were originally issued for the arrest of the three. Each charge filed against the three is a felony.

Meeker names Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Meeker High School named Breanna Pearcy as Valedictorian and Mary Beth Frerichs as Salutatorian for 2022. The students were recognized at the commencement ceremony, Friday, May 13, 7:30 pm at Firelake Arena, in Shawnee.

Harold Lee “Hap” Davis

Harold Lee “Hap” Davis passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on April 6, 2022, at the age of 88. Harold was born to Virgil Lee and Mary Ella Davis on March 16, 1934, in Sparks, Okla.; where he lived until he served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
