Fifty-five years ago today, Dec. 4, is a day that will be lodged in my mind forever. It’s the day I arrived at Fort Polk, La., to begin basic training for the 95th Division Army Reserve unit in Shawnee.I had signed up for a six-year stint in the Reserve unit on March 7 of that year.

Board member Robin Wiley Greene said the board hired Jones back and extended his contract for another year.

Christmas festivities are underway, with many towns in the area gearing up. The following activities are set to go on throughout the month of December.StroudStroud’sannualChristmasparade is set to take place on Dec. 6, heading down Main Street. The parade will start at 6 p.m.

It was a foggy scene as members of the Senior Team huddled up during Chandler High School’s annual Powder Puff Championship on Nov. 24 at Joe Telford Field. The team defeated the Freshmen in its first game and made it all the way to the final game against the Juniors.
