Alsip and Barton are October Lions

Chandler High School seniors Dalton Alsip and Victoria Barton have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of October.

Barton, the daughter of Randall and Kimberly Barton, is participating in the Pre-engineering Program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla. She is also a concurrent student at Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla. She is a member of the CHS Gifted and Talented Program and was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors.

She was a senior class Student Council representative and was a member of FIRST Robotics Team 2341 serving as captain.

Barton participated in CHS Varsity Pom and was chosen to be captain. She was also involved in Varsity Cross Country.

She has served the community through the God and Peoples Food Pantry and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) on Wheels. She volunteered her time to help out with Veterans’ Day activities and was a youth leader and Vacation Bible School volunteer at Chandler First Baptist Church.

Her future plans are to attend college to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Alsip is the son of Cassandra Gordon and Marshall Alsip. He has attended Chandler Public Schools since Head Start.

He participates in the CHS Gifted and Talented program and was chosen to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. He was a 2020 Boys’ State Delegate and was also involved in Positive Peers, Postponing Sexual Involvement and Leaders with Promise.

Alsip has played basketball, baseball and track throughout his high school years and served as captain of the varsity basketball team last year.

He has been a trumpet player for the CHS band for four years and earned a spot in the Honor Band. He has played the piano for five years.

As a 12-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, Alsip achieved the rank of Eagle Scout awarded on Dec. 16, 2018. His project was installing benches for client use in the waiting area of the Chandler Food Pantry. He is a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association and Boy Scout Leadership Order of the Arrow. He now serves as assistant senior patrol leader and quartermaster for Scout Troop 133 Chandler.

Alsip has given back to the community by participation in Veterans’ Day activities and Lincoln County Relay for Life. He did volunteer work for the Chandler School Backpack Program, God and People’s Food Pantry and the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History. He is an acolyte and member of First United Methodist Church in Chandler.

Alsip plans to attend Seminole State College before going to a state university to major in Biosciences working toward a doctorate degree.
