The education sales tax figures in June show a jump from May in three area school districts in Pottawatomie County and for the DA Justice Center, the Pottawatomie County Treasurer’s office reports.

The figures for June are based on retail sales throughout the county during April of 2020, reflecting the start up of non-essential businesses that were mandated closed by Gov. Kevin Stitt due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Pottawatomie County education sales tax of .495 percent went into effect July 1, 2016 following approval by county voters in November of 2015.

The April sales taxes were submitted to the Oklahoma Tax Commission in May and distributed back to the county this month.

County Treasurer Wendy Magnus reported the June amount for the McLoud School District is $43,045. In May, the figure was $38,360.64. McLoud has received a total of $256,488.79 from the tax so far in 2020.

Dale School District’s June amount is $20,208.09.

The May check was for $18,008.95. Dale’s total from the tax this calendar year is $120,412.32.

The figure for the North Rock Creek School District in June is $18,948.04. In May, it was $16,886.02.

Total for 2020 through six months from the tax is $112,904.17.

The Justice Center’s check in June is $3,223.55. The amount in May was $2,872.75. The total for the calendar year for the Justice Center from the sales tax is $19,207.92.

The amount directed monthly to each of the schools’ accounts is based on average daily attendance from last year that is submitted to the county treasurer each August. The amounts schools are now receiving are based on the 2018-2019 school year, Magnus said.
