Chandler High School seniors Khiana Sudbrock and Aubrey Vaughan were named student members of the Rotary Club for January 2022.
Khiana Sudbrock, the daughter of Khristian Sudbrock, has three younger siblings.
After graduation, Khiana plans to attend one of Oklahoma’s major universities with a major in psychology working toward a career as a mental health and substance abuse social worker.
She has prepared for life after high school by working a part time job to cover expenses and taking part in the many programs that Chandler has to offer. She was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Khiana participated in CHS Pom, track and basketball. She was involved in Postponing Sexual Involvement and Positive Peers.
She served the community through Special Olympics, Water 4 Kids International, Unity in the Community and the Chandler Ice Cream Festival. She volunteered at the pom clinic for elementary students, was a tutor for junior high students and worked at the food pantry.
Through family circumstances beyond her control, Khiana has learned the benefits of putting service above self. Being the oldest child in her family, she took responsibility to help care for her younger siblings when others were not able. Remembering the struggles she experienced, she wanted to do her part to make sure her siblings did not endure the same.
Putting others needs before her own; she is working a part time job to help with family expenses and is still involved in school activities and a healthy social lifestyle. She gives credit to her grandmother and other families for making it possible.
Khiana says she truly believes that everything happens for a reason and serves a better purpose in the development of life. She feels she has a better understanding of love and gratitude and wants to continue to serve others before herself.
Aubrey Vaughan is the daughter of Jack Vaughan and Lori Vaughan. She has one 14-year-old sibling.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater with a major in business. She has prepared for life after high school by taking concurrent college-level classes through Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla.
Aubrey was selected to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp during her junior year and was chosen for the Banc-First Student Board of Directors.
She is a member of National Honor Society and served as CHS Pom captain and treasurer of both her sophomore and junior classes. She participated in Positive Peers, Postponing Sexual Involvement and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Aubrey has practiced “Service Above Self” through many community services. She mentored a young boy in Special Olympics competition in Stillwater and helped with the food bank at Straight Street Ministries Church. She served ice cream at Chandler’s annual Ice Cream Festival and led a group at the pom clinic for younger students.
She says, though, that her favorite “Service Above Self” experience has been as crew leader for third and fourth graders in Vacation Bible School at Chandler First United Methodist Church. For three years, she has taught Bible stories and songs to deepen the children’s connection with God.
She loved the excitement on their faces every morning as they look forward to the new day.
Her love for the children has been returned for every time one of the children she has taught sees her, they give her a hug.
Aubrey says knowing they have had an impact on each other’s lives warms her heart and makes her want to continue to be a good influence on little kids.
