The Alpha Iota Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the Chandler High School Media Center. President Marilyn Young opened the meeting, welcoming essay winners, their families and 13 chapter members. She presented a short history of the founding of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Kim Leatherwood, essay committee chairman, presented the winners of the 2023 Essay Contest. The prompt for the essay was: What is the one thing you wish your parents, teachers or coaches really knew about you? Seventh grade winners were first place, Karyss Camp bell and second place Katherine Barnett.

Eighth grade winners were first place, Rhett Haley and second place, Royanna Berry. The students attend Chandler Junior High School and their English teacher is Pam Anderson. Winners read their winning essay to the audience. Kim Leatherwood presented each of them with a certificate and a monetary reward. The first place essays have been submit ted for state competition.

Marilyn Young announced that Elizabeth Marble was the recipient of the Alpha Iota Recruitment Grant. She is majoring in Social Studies Education at Oklahoma Christian University. Jana Telford was recognized for 40 years of membership in the Alpha Iota Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Inter national. Jana will also be recognized at

the Oklahoma State convention in June.

Kim Leatherwood gave a memorial cer- emony for former member, Imogene Harbin.

Following the presentations, members and guests enjoyed a birthday celebration for Delta Kappa Gamma. Hostesses were Jana Telford, Katy Greenfield and Kim Leatherwood. After refreshments a short business meeting was held with president, Marilyn Young, presiding. The World Fellowship gift was brought by Kim Leatherwood and won by Becky Stone. The next meeting of the Alpha Iota Chapter will be a planning meeting during the summer.
