Chandler will be represented on the National level at the National American Miss Pageant.

16-year-old, Laryssa Nunn qualified as an All-American Finalist for the National pageant after receiving the Oklahoma Jr. Teen Academic Achievement award, came in first runner up for Best Resume and placed runner-up in the overall Oklahoma Jr. Teen competition held in Tulsa.

“It feels absolutely incredible because I have put in so much hard work,” she said.

Nunn said when she was on stage and heard she was first runner up in the Oklahoma Jr. Teen contest, she almost passed out.

“It was an amazing feeling,” she said.

The National American Miss Pageant is scheduled to be held this November in Orlando, FL.

Nunn has been in pageants on and off since seventh grade and was focusing on winning on the state level.

“I’ve just been trying to get ready for this year’s pageant,” she said. “I hadn’t even thought about making it to Nationals at this point.”

While at Nationals, competitors are required to compete in a variety of competitions including formal wear, personal introduction, an interview, a resume and a community service project.

For her community service project, Nunn worked in the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

“I’ve been doing a lot of volunteer work for the health department,” she said.

Nunn said she helped with the water aerobic classes before COVID-19 hit.

There are also optional contests that contesters can compete in.

Nunn said she is planning on competing in the spokesmodel competition, red carpet correspondent competition, essay competition, the academic achievement and the fresh face fashion show.

“I thought I might as well go big,” she said.

Nunn has been involved in pageants on and off since seventh grade and said that these experiences have taught her a variety of lessons like how to lose gracefully and the importance of hard work.

“I’m extremely happy that all of my hard work has paid off so that I can go to nationals,” she said.

Nunn said this experience has also showed her that she is a good public speaker, too.
