A Henryetta man faces an assault and battery charge on a police officer following his arrest by Meeker police in early April.
Formal charges of Battery/Assault and Battery on a Police Officer were filed on April 19 in Lincoln County District Court against Jerry David Bell, 28.
Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on April 12 set a $3,000 bond for Bell with the condition he have no contact with the victim. Bell’s initial appearance was made on April 19 and the judge scheduled a prepreliminary hearing for him at 1:30 p.m. on May 6.
Bell is accused of kicking Meeker Police Officer Dusty Stevens while Stevens was performing his official duties on April 9 this year in Lincoln County.
Stevens, in a probable cause affidavit, states that on April 9 just before 1 p.m. he responded to a domestic dispute in progress at 423 Loy Street in Meeker.
He reported that when he arrived he spoke to Anthony Owen who was the reporting party. Owen advised the officer that Bell had threatened his life along with that of Sydney Loving.
Stevens stated that when he spoke with Loving she had red marks and scratches on the front of her neck and upper chest from a domestic that reportedly occurred the day before, April 8, in the early afternoon. Bell allegedly shoved Loving across the living room of the residence and Loving told the officer she was moving out along with her two small children who witnessed the altercation.
The affidavit says at that point, Officer Stevens placed Bell under arrest for Domestic Abuse in the presence of a minor. Bell then began to get very belligerent, Sevens says in the affidavit, and began yelling obscenities.
Stevens told Bell he was also being charged with Disorderly Conduct. Bell reportedly told Stevens he didn’t care and he will see him in court.
Shortly after 1:15, Stevens transported Bell to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler to be booked on those two charges.
The officer stated he arrived at the jail at 1:32 p.m. and as he was assisting Bell out of the patrol car, Bell began to resist that led to an altercation in the parking lot. Stevens was kicked in his right leg that caused the two to hit the ground where he also injured his left elbow.
Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff George Kelly Coleman came to assist Stevens on escorting Bell inside the jail without further incident, Stevens said.
