Officials at Davenport High School announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the 2022 graduating class. Both students have attended DHS since kindergarten.
Emma Buchanan will be honored as Valedictorian for achieving a 4.0 grade point average. Jaci Chowning is the Class of 2022 Salutatorian and will also be recognized during the commencement cer emony on 7 p.m., Thursday, May 19, at First Baptist Church in Davenport.
Emma is the daughter of Jason and Jessica Buchanan. She consistently earned a spot on the DHS Superintendent’s Honor Roll and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
Taking concurrent college courses during high school, Emma was also on the honor roll for part time students at Seminole State College in Seminole. She was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors.
She was involved in DHS Cheer for four years serving as co-captain her senior year and was a member of the pep club for five years.
Emma has helped out her community by working at events held by the Chamber of Com merce. She is a member of Davenport First Baptist Church.
In addition to academic work, extracurricular activities and community service during high school, Emma held employment as a server and hostess at Scotty B’s Restaurant.
Following graduation, she plans to continue her at Seminole State College before transferring to a four-year university.
Jaci, the daughter of Shelia and William “Bill” Chowning, holds a 3.86 GPA while taking concurrent college classes at Central Technology Center in Drumright. She was on the CTC Director’s Honor Roll completing courses in Principles of Biomedical Sciences and Algebra II.
Jaci earned the DHS Certificate of Excellence in Algebra I, English I, and Physical Science. A participant in the Oklahoma Association for Academic Competition, she was state runner up in Language Arts.
Her extracurricular activities during high school include Quiz Bowl and Pep Club.
Jaci has given back to her community through volunteer work at a nursing home for two years and a day care for three years.
She currently works at Walmart.
Jaci is the recipient of the President’s Leadership Scholarship at Seminole State College. She plans to continue her education after high school working toward a bachelor’s degree with the goal of becoming a psychologist. She also wants to be a foster parent.
