Can you believe Christmas is going to be here in just a little over 3 weeks?
I find it hard to believe until I drive down Main Street and see all the beautiful decorations.
The tree in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park is absolutely gorgeous and I love the new red banners adorning the light poles.
Thank you to City Manager Bob Pearman for the pride he takes in and the vision he has for our community. Keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape is important but taking care of the aesthetics of Stroud is important, too.
Many visitors drive down Highways 66 & 99 every day and the image we present is important. Thank you to our City Council for supporting Bob and to our City workers who make it all happen.
There are many more decorations to see; those are just some of the new additions this year. Be sure to drive downtown and I promise it will get you in the Christmas spirit.
The American Legion Auxiliary sold “Thank You Veterans” yard signs as a fund raiser. We ordered a few extra in case anyone missed placing their order. We ended up with extra ten signs so I took them to Davenport to see if anyone would like to purchase one.
Mike and Annita Shields Vandever, owners of Dan’s BBQ, bought all ten signs just to show their support of our veterans and our Auxiliary. Next time you eat at Dan’s, please thank them for their support!
My good friend and Town Talk volunteer Julie Bivin celebrated her birthday this week. I didn’t ask her how old she was, but I do believe just by watching all the work she does around town, not just for Town Talk but for the food pantry, American Legion Auxiliary and her church, she’s one of those thirty-nine and holding girls.
Town Talk couldn’t do what we do without Julie. If you see her out and about, wish her a belated birthday. It’s never too late to receive good wishes.
Stroud’s Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade takes place this Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. There will be refreshments and entertainment at the Route 66 Pavilion beginning at 5:30 p.m.
An ugly sweater contest will take place there at 5:30, also. Prizes will be awarded so you’ll want to be sure to enter. Don’t miss the chance to get your pet’s picture taken with Santa Claus on December 4th, also, at Santa Paws and Pals.
Parks Brothers Funeral Home is sponsoring this event. It will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at 504 North 8th Avenue. Refreshments will be available.
There is no charge to have your pet’s picture taken and you will receive a free digital print. I’m sure Erin Bradley had a big hand in organizing this.
Thanks to Parks Brothers for your community support! It’s going to be a fun filled day in Stroud that you won’t want to miss.
I babysat my little great-nephews, Lincoln and August, while Gideon and their parents went to the bedlam game Saturday evening.
I have a twin-size air mattress that I’ve kept at their house since Gideon, now eleven, was a little boy. You might remember that I wrote about that when I purchased it because I was desperate to find one, didn’t have time to go out of town and found one at our own Dollar General.
Anyway, I had a sleep-over with the boys and I forget they like to sleep on that air mattress with me. Just a reminder – it’s twin-sized! I like to refer to it as the “best worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had.” I would never complain because I love hanging out with those guys, but I will tell you, if you notice my “Letter to Santa” in this year’s newspaper I will be asking him to bring me a larger air mattress.
Have a great week and shop local first. Don’t be silly like I was and think you must go out of town to find what might be on your shopping list!
