Lincoln County Commissioners in their meeting this week discussed county redistricting during a zoom meeting with the State Senate assistant handling that issue.
Following about an hour discussion with him, the commissioners voted to have the assistant email a couple different versions of the proposed redistricting to County Clerk Alicia Wagnon. She will then distribute those to the three commissioners.
Commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, to again discuss the issue and also will take up other items on that special agenda.
The Senate assistant reminded the commissioners, “You don’t have to make up your minds today, but eventually you have to make a decision.”
Commissioners voted to approve an agreement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for the replacement of 30 bridges in Lincoln County.
The agreement involves 30 bridges from all three Tribes in the county, including the Kickapoo, Iowa and Sac and Fox, it was explained.
The commissioners were informed the bridges will be redone over a fouryear period. The BIA is putting in $3 million over that period of time with the cost to the county $450,000.
“The agreement is not legally binding until the BIA signs off on it,” the commissioners were advised. “So we’ll get 30 bridges in the next four years,” they were told.
Commissioners, in other action, accepted a 2022 Safe Oklahoma Grant in the amount of $20,000 to target violent crimes.
They also voted to authorize Emergency Management Director Brandon Morgan to have full access to the OK Emergency Management Grants System, appointed him as the Emergency Management representative to the 911 Board and appointed him as the Floodplain Administrator.
