Bench warrant issued in firearm case

A $20,000 bench warrant was issued for a Chelsea man who faces three felony counts filed against him in Lincoln County District Court.

Steven Tyler Mayfield, 22, was formally charged March 23 with possession of a firearm after felony conviction, distribution of controlled dangerous substance including possession with intent to distribute and knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property.

Court records show the bench warrant was issued for Mayfield’s arrest on March 24. The warrant was returned and filed on March 29 and his initial appearance was set for 1:30 p.m. last Friday, April 2.

In Count 1, Mayfield is accused of having in his possession a Sig P226 9mm semi automatic firearm near SH 66 in Davenport in Lincoln County on Nov. 25, 2020 after he had been convicted of second degree burglary in Craig County on Oct. 26, 2018.

Count 2 charges the defendant with knowingly possessing marijuana with intent to distribute near SH 66 in Davenport on Nov. 25, 2020.

And Count 3 alleges on that same date having in his possession that same firearm at the same location which was taken in a burglary from a residence in Craig County.

In supplemental information filed by prosecutors, it shows Mayfield was convicted on Oct. 26, 2018 in Craig County of child neglect and sentenced to five years.

It also states he was given a five-year sentence for the second degree R, OK burglary conviction in Craig County on the same date.
