Carney Board hires interim police chief

The Town of Carney Board of Trustees hired an interim police chief at a special meeting on June 3.

According to the minutes of the meeting, the trustees accepted the resignation of Chief John Cobb effective June 9, allowing him to switch to part-time at $20/ hr. Brittany Alyzoud was then hired as the interim police chief at a pay rate of $24/hr, 30 hours per week.

The trustees took no action on the total part-time hours allowed per month for the police department.

At a special meeting of the Carney Public Utilities Authority on May 26, the Trustees took no action on the Fiscal Year Operation Budget for 2026-27, but did discuss line items.

At the regular public utilities authority meeting on May 14, the Trustees approved a quote from Edwards Equipment to install a new pump at the lift station, not to exceed $10,000. The expenses are to be paid out of the CPUA Debt Reserve account.

They also approved pay applications and invoices, namely: a pay app for $194,529.32 to Circle B Underground LLC for the water relocation, an engineering invoice for $21,080 with Infrastructure Solutions Group for water relocation and vendor invoices.

At the regular Council Meeting on the same day, the Trustees approved an audit for FiscalYear Ending 2024 and 2025 by Ralph Osborn, CPA LLP and a request by Chris Knapp at GGWRenewableResources LLC to install a business sign on Highway 177.

The Trustees also approved Banner Invoice Parts Order AK-21340 to be reimbursed out of the 80/20 Fire Grant, and tabled discussion or action on a quote from Centranet to install wireless internet at the fire station. They did approve a quote to install a back door, new security camera and gravel for the parking lot behind Town Hall for police vehicles.

They also approved a quote from Greg Evans to make floor repairs at Town Hall and a mutual aid agreement with Lincoln County. Trustees also approved allowing the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Rod Baker use the community center for addiction counseling sessions.

The Trustees tabled an offerforaTrkM923American General Humvee and renewed a contract with Countryside Veterinary Services.
