COVID cases slowing in area

The number of deaths and new cases in the area attributed to COVID-19 has slowed significantly in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show.

Since March 16, there has been one more death in Pottawatomie County and none in Lincoln County. The OSDH is not providing any information on deaths regarding gender and age group as they had been previously.

The OSDH two weeks ago began reporting the breakdown of deaths and new cases on a weekly basis rather than daily. The agency has stated the reason is because of the decline in COVID-19 cases recently.

The agency is releasing that information on Wednesdays so the most recent numbers provided here are from March 24 since this week’s edition went to press Tuesday night, March 30.

There now have been 84 deaths in Pottawatomie County attributed to COVID-19. That number compares to 83 a week ago, OSDH figures show.

Lincoln County has 58 reported deaths, the same as a week ago.

Over the past week, the number of positive cases has risen a little in both Pottawatomie and Lincoln counties, OSDH figures show.

The number of new positive tests in Pottawatomie County jumped by 38 in the last week and in Lincoln County they increased by 10, according to figures provided by the OSDH.

Between the two counties, the number of positive tests jumped by 48 in the last seven days.
