Dale Board of Education meeting

The Dale Board of Education this week administered the Oath of Office to a new member, rehired certified personnel and athletic personnel and approved the hiring of several new teachers.

Board members also approved temporary appropriations for 2024-2025. The General Fund totals $6,662,186, Building Fund $281,726 and Child Nutrition $498,555.

Jennifer Herring, elected to the board without opposition, took the Oath of Office and her seat on the board, School Supt. Will Jones confirmed.

She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Josh Clark last year.

In reorganization of the board, members voted to keep the same three in their positions as this past year including Robin Wiley-Greene as president, Tim Collins vice president and Roger Batt as clerk.

Without going into executive session, board members approved the rehiring of all certified personnel for 2024-2025 and all athletic department personnel for 2024-2025.

New teachers hired include Rachel Carger, as assistant band director, Travis Oakley as high school teacher and assistant softball coach, Carrie Hatley as a high school science teacher and Troy Flewallen as Middle School teacher and transportation director. All were for the 2024-2025 school year, They accepted the resignation of Bryce Clemons. The board members approved summer camps for both boys and girls basketball, softball, baseball and reading.

They approved property and casualty insurance for 2024-2025 in the amount of $260,000, then voted to use Pottawatomie County Education sales tax funds to pay for it.

They approved an OSSBA customized policy services agreement.

They approved participation in the East Central Online Consortium.

They adopted a resolution for schools and libraries Universal Services (E-rate) for 2024-2025 authorizing filing of applications for funding year 2024-2025 and the payment of the applicant’s share upon arrival of funding and receipt of services.

During his report, Jones reviewed financial information with the board showing how April of this year compared to the same month in 2023.

The warrants as of April 2024 were $4,848,021 and in April of 2023 they were $4,418,240.

That’s an increase of $429,781over April of 2023, he noted.

Building Fund cash balance in April of this year was $2,076,809 compared to $185,214 in April of 2023. That’s an increase of $1,891,589 and Jones attributed that to insurance money.

The General Fund cash balance in April of this year stood at $2,076,809, about $1,088,920 more than the $987,889 balance in April of 2023, he said.

State Aid received as of April of 2024 is $3,518,400 and that is an increase of $1,045,585 over the $2,472,815 of April 2023.
