Dale school board

Dale School Board of Education members this week approved temporary appropriations for 2023-2024, rehired several certified personnel and rehired athletic department personnel.

Temporary appropriations for 2023-2024 include $6,253,683 for General Fund current expense, $177,368 for the building fund, $499,178 Child Nutrition Fund and $50,000 for the building bond fund.

Following about a 30-minute executive session, the board returned to open meeting and rehired temporary staff for 2023-2024 at a capacity to be determined by administration including Lori Sanford, Alex Benito, Jerry Sanford, Lauren Kelly, Adrienne Wootten, Ashley Barbosa, Jenny Dilbeck and Emily Battershell.

Board members also rehired the Athletic Staff for the 2023-2024 school year at capacity to be determined including Jason Reece, athletic director, Jeff Edmonson, Josh Forsythe, Eddie Jeffcoat, Reed Johnson, Andy Powell, Eric Smith, Scott Wilson, Bryce Clemons and Bruce Throckmorton.

They also voted to employ Tabbitha Tannehill for fifth grade math and Stacia Paterson, fifth grade ELA.

The retirement of Jeanne Dickinson and resignations from Cissili Sample and Taylor Chesser were approved by the board.

In his report, School Supt. Will Jones announced the new phone system has been installed and is working. “It will save us about $1,000 a month in cost,” he informed the board.

The new Security System is in place and though late for this year, will be ready to go for the next school year.

Carren Cantrell announced High School graduation is 7:30 p.m. May 18 at Firelake Arena.

Jones also provided board members with revenue comparisons between April of this year and April of 2022.

As of April of 2023, warrants have totaled $4,418,240 and as of April of 2022 the figure was $4,229,844 which is $188,396 more than a year ago.

He said the building fund cash balance in April of this year stood at $185,214. In April of 2022, it totaled $111,674 which is up $73,567.

Jones pointed to the district’s General Fund cash balance in April of this year which was $987,889 and in April of 2022 it totaled $1,030,593. That is a drop of $42,704 over the same month in 2022.

State aid received as of April this year was $2,472,815. In April of 2022 it was $2,451,566. That amount is $21,249 more than in April of a year ago.

The County Education sales tax balance was $531,515 in April of 2023 and in April of 2022 it stood at $425,339 an increase of $106,176. Jones pointed out April’s county sales tax check was $26,143.

He advised the board 2022-2023 Esser III funds are $452,834.

In other business, the board members: Approved participation in the East Central Online Consortium.

Adopted a resolution for schools and libraries Universal Services (E-rate) for 2023-2024 authorizing filing of applications for funding year 2023-2024 and the payment of the applicant’s share upon arrival of funding and receipt of services.

Approved summer camps.

In her report Elementary Principal Tamee Daniel said enrollment is 356, holding steady, and announced the retirement party for Jeanne Dickinson on May 10 at Bandana Red’s.

She stated kindergarten graduation is Monday, May 15.

Middle School Principal Kim Powell reported enrollment at 262. She said Michelle Edmonson was selected as the District’s Teacher of the Year and Johhnie Radford was chosen the District’s Support Staff Person of the Year.
