Harboring: One to trial, one dismissed

A woman charged with harboring her brother from justice has been bound over to stand trial and the harboring case against his mother has been dismissed.

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for the mother and sister who are charged with harboring a fugitive from justice.

Kara Vancuren, 34, of Prague, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court July 29, 2022 with harboring a fugitive from justice.

Lincoln County deputies reported in a probable cause affidavit that she is the sister of Mick Devin Vancuren who had been charged with multiple felonies and several misdemeanors in several separate cases.

A $3,000 bench warrant was initially issued for her arrest and court records show the warrant was returned and filed Aug. 8. She appeared before Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on that date and she scheduled Vancuren’s initial appearance for Sep. 29. In April, she was bound over to stand trial on the charge. Her arraignment is scheduled for May 2.

Also facing a felony harboring a fugitive from justice count was Robin Lea Marsh, 65, of Prague, identified by deputies in a probable cause affidavit as Vancuren’s mother. The charge was formally filed on Aug. 8 in Lincoln County District Court.

Marsh’s bond was set at $5,000. According to court records, on April 6 the state announced it was dismissing the case against Marsh without cost.

Special Judge Emily Mueller originally set their pre-preliminary hearings for Nov. 17. She continued those hearings until Dec. 15 and ordered both to be present with their attorneys.

On that date, she scheduled preliminary hearings for the two on March 2, 2023.

Marsh and Kara Vancuren were accused of aiding, assisting and concealing Mick Vancuren when they knew law enforcement officers were looking for him for the purpose of executing warrants for his arrest.

Marsh, along with Mick and Kara Vancuren were arrested on June 9, 2022 the probable cause affidavit states, as deputies were attempting to serve outstanding warrants on Mick Vancuren.
