Local students win at academic contest

Schools from around the state, including Lincoln County, took part in the 52nd Annual Scholastic Meet at Seminole State College on March 26, according to a press release from the college.

AgraHighSchoolwonthe sweepstakes championship in Division II, while multiple students from Agra, North Rock Creek and Prague won 20 individual awards in 16 different categories.

To win the sweepstakes award, a high school must have the most accumulated points and medal placings, the release said. Preston High School won the sweepstakes in Division I, with Morris High School as the runnerup. In Division II, New Lima High School was the runnerup behind Agra.

There were about 500 students representing 33 high schools in the competition, competing in two divisions, the press release said. Division I included schools classified as 3A, 4A and 5A. Division II was schools in A to 2A.

The competition consisted of exams in 15 academic areas, along with four art categories. The top five students were recognized in each category.
