A landlord in Meeker was shot and injured on New Year’s Eve morning after he pointed a handgun at a Lincoln County deputy who had responded to a call that morning.
Lincoln County Sheriff Kevin Garrett reported his deputy was dispatched to 101152 S. 3376 Rd. in Meeker just before 8 a.m. The party who had contacted authorities said the landlord was looking through the window.
The reporting party said he was moving out and that it’s been an ongoing issue with the landlord, the sheriff said. He said the landlord apparently didn’t knock on the door, but just went to the window and was staring.
Garrett said that a little after 8 a.m. the deputy arrived at the scene and was met by the landlord, The deputy went to talk with the reporting party, then talked to the landlord, who became upset at the deputy and then went inside his camper trailer.
The sheriff reported the landlord left the trailer with a handgun and the landlord, identified as Bobby Lee Raymond was shot in his arm after the deputy fired shots at him.
Garrett stated Raymond went inside the camper. Backup units from Wellston and the Oklahoma Game Warden assisted the deputy going into the camper and arrested Raymond.
Raymond was taken to OU Medical Center. Raymond was released from the hospital on Thursday, New Year’s Day, and then taken to the Lincoln County jail.
Garrett said the deputy is suspended with pay until cleared by the District Attorney’s Office.
Raymond appeared in court before District Judge Sarah Bridge on Friday and she set his bond at $7,500, the sheriff said.
