The Oklahoma Hall of Fame has opened registration for its Oklahoma Scholarship Competition to high schoolers across the state. The competition has more than $770,000 available in cash scholarships and tuition grants, according to a press release from the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
“Empowering the next generation of leaders is at the heart of our mission,” said Gini Moore Campbell, vice president at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. “Through the Oklahoma Scholarship Competition, we provide financial support that opens doors to higher education for Oklahoma’s high school students, in both rural and urban areas. The program helps ensure that young people have the resources they need to continue their education in Oklahoma and make a difference in our state.”
Students from ninth to 12th grade can participate. The competition will test their knowledge of Oklahoma’s history, geography and people. It consists of a one-hour online test that will be administered in March.
Participating students will take the exam in the county where they attend school and the top scorers will be awarded either a cash scholarship or tuition grant to an accredited Oklahoma college or university, according to the press release. Last year, a total of 92 students received scholarships.
According to the competition’s guidelines, students can earn a maximum of one $1,000 cash scholarship and one tuition grant through the exam during their four years of eligibility. Only one scholarship or tuition grant can be won per year.
Those interested can pre-register on the Oklahoma Hall of Fame website before Friday, Feb. 28. All rules and regulations are listed on the webpage for the competition. Students who win scholarships will be invited to the Scholarship Awards Assembly on April 23 at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum.
