School board contested races

The three-day filing period for school board offices closed last week and races developed in two Lincoln County school districts and in two Pottawatomie County school districts.

In Carney, Ronald Brown, Jacob Thompson and Jesse Townsend will be on the ballot in the Feb. 8 primary election.

In Prague, Incumbent Thomas L. Palmer is being challenged for his Office No. 2 seat by Jarrod VanZant and Adam D. Hogue. They also will be on the primary election ballot Feb. 8.

Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh has explained in the primary elections for both Carney and Prague, “If one of those candidates receives more than 50 percent of the vote, that candidate will be named the elected official.

“If no candidate receives more than 50 percent, then the two receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the position in the April 5 General Election.”

The others who have filed in Lincoln County school districts have won new terms without opposition and they include:

Agra: Kyle A. Wolff, incumbent.

Chandler: Michael Don Christy, incumbent.

Davenport: Jason Gilkison, incumbent.

Meeker: Bret Wood, incumbent.

Stroud: Kathy Moore, incumbent.

Wellston: Brock Terrell, incumbent.

White Rock: Kim Y. Ballard, incumbent. White Rock is for a three-year term.

Each is for Office No. 2 and a five-year term unless otherwise noted.

In Pottawatomie County, contests developed for the Office No. 2 seats at Dale and McLoud.

At Dale, incumbent Roger Batt and Jennifer Herring will square off in the April 5 General Election as will Shelton Mapira and Laureen M. Maxwell for the McLoud School Board.

At North Rock Creek, Chris White has won a new five-year term and at Gordon Cooper Technology Center Robert Kinsey won a new five-year term for Office No. 4 when no one filed against him.
