Pardon me boys, it’s not the Chattanooga Choo-Choo but it is the next best thing. The Andrew Sisters Tribute Trio will be in Stroud this Saturday night at the Assembly of God Family Life Center at 7:00 p.m. This event is a thank you to our veterans and to honor them from the American Legion Auxiliary. RCB Bank and BancFirst are proud sponsors of the event. All veterans receive complimentary admission to the event and the general public may receive a ticket with a $20 donation to Town Talk’s Bugle Boy project. The program will take place from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with refreshments served afterwards. If you don’t have your ticket yet, they will be available at the door on the night of the show. Please support this community event. Let’s come together and show our support for our veterans.
I met a new couple this past Sunday at Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66. Michael and Tomorrow Weaver from Chandler came to play a round of miniature golf. Michael is originally from Newkirk and Tomorrow has family in Guthrie but grew up in Amarillo, Texas. Michael is retired from the Navy. As I always say, one of the great things about being a community volunteer is meeting nice people who often become fast friends. I’m not going to mention who won this husband/ wife match but I do know it took three games to declare a winner. Michael was hoping his wife would win because then she’d have to buy him lunch. Tomorrow says she reads Town Talk each week and keeps up on our activities so, Town Talk sends a shout out and a great big thank you to the Weavers for supporting Putt Putt Kicks.
The American Legion Auxiliary held their November meeting this past Monday night. Members attending were Marsha Morgan, Keturah Brown, Thelma Mauldin, Pam Hunt, Diana McGuire, Delores Hamlin, Cindy Mason, Aleta Smalley, Julie Bivin and Jo Braden. Plans were finalized for the Andrew Sisters event. Also, Auxiliary member Aleta Smalley hosted a Stroud poker run table for our State President, Gayle Keenes, which was held this past Saturday.
Funeral services were held last week for Stroud businesswoman, community volunteer and my dear friend Cathy Terry. Many out-of-town alums were in attendance including Jerry Lou Hendricks Hodges, Don Gardner, Cathy Carpenter, Larry O’Kelly, J.R. Owens and Billie Kay Smith. Along with Cathy’s immediate family cousins and Stroud alums Doug and Caroline Terry Adare of Ponca City and Carl and Harriett Terry Johns of Bartlesville were present to honor Cathy. Gerard Nsabimana, former Stroud United Methodist pastor, officiated along with their current pastor Ben Pascoe. Church members were pleased to get to reminisce with Pastor Gerard. Many of you have asked if Unique Market is going to remain open and the answer is yes, it is. Andrea, Cathy’s daughter and coowner of the store, is taking a week off but then will reopen, just in time for the holiday season.
Town Talk sends a big shout-out and get well wishes to our dear friend Alfreidya Webster, owner of the Skyliner Motel and big-time Stroud supporter. She has been dealing with some health issues, but prayers have been answered and she is on the mend.
Congratulations to the Stroud High School Tiger football team who finished the season number one in Class A District Six with seven wins and zero losses. Check out our local merchants for all your holiday needs. Thanksgiving is just two weeks from today. We have so much to be thankful for and one is being able to live in a small town but still have local shopping available to meet our needs. Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop local first.
