Town Talk

Town Talk volunteers and the American Legion Auxiliary will hold their second Italian luncheon on March 12th. Thank you to everyone who came and had lunch with us. It was a huge success so we are going to host it again. It will be from noon until 2:30 p.m. You can find the location and menu next week right here in this column. Children fifth grade and under will also be treated to a free spaghetti lunch. Tickets will still be a $20 donation to our Bugle Boy Project.

Speaking of the Bugle Boy, he has arrived in Guthrie and they are anxiously awaiting bringing him to Stroud. The local details are being worked out with our City Manager Bob Pearman so that everything will be in place for his arrival. We will announce a dedication ceremony in the near future so stay tuned to this column for all the information. We have not raised enough funds as of yet to cover his cost so we are still accepting donations. If you haven’t contributed, please consider doing so and no donation is too small.

The American Legion Auxiliary held their February meeting this last week. Those attending were Julie Bivin, Pam Hunt, Diana McGuire, Aleta Smalley, Keturah Brown, Delores Hamlin, Cindy Mason and Jo Braden. The Unit voted to invite theAndrew Sisters back to Stroud to entertain our veterans and the community on Veterans Day 2023. Rave reviews were given by all who attended. So, if you missed it, you will be given a second chance. The women also voted to hold a wreath laying ceremony at the cemetery on December 16th. The Auxiliary will be asking individuals, families and businesses to sponsor wreaths for our veterans.

Thank you to everyone who supported Casey’s new single/video, “Things We Don’t Talk About.” It was released on December 17th and has already received great reviews. Watch the Stroud Happenings and Functions page where updates will be posted about the song’s success. Casey is a client of Go Long Entertainment in Nashville and his manager is Jeff Davis. Jeff believes this song will get some attention so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

The first grade Tigers basketball team took home a second place trophy in their end of season tournament which was held this past weekend in Little Axe. Team members are Mason McCammon, August Smalley, Greyson Hubbard, Lincoln Smalley, Kanon Hilbert and Elton (L.T.) Orr. A big Town Talk shout-out to Beau and Toyie Hubbard for coaching these boys. Their coaching techniques were positive and you could tell each boy enjoyed playing for them. This is a big time commitment and these two coaches along with all our other coaches, whether community or school related, deserve our thanks. To do this job you first have to love kids and secondly, you have to love sports so great job coaches! We thank you.

Every time I drive down Main Street whether it be day or night, I feel proud to be from Stroud. Our Main Street looks amazing and there is always hustle and bustle going on when businesses are open. I pulled in to town Sunday evening and loved seeing all the flags flying for President’s Day. To see Bank First and Trust Company’s big flag flying high above the City I was reminded once again what a great town I grew up in and what a wonderful nation we have. Let’s get out and support our merchants, restaurateurs and serviceoriented businesses. Shop local first and when you’re in one of our local establishments, thank them for owning a business in our hometown. Thank you for continuing to shop local…………………………first!
