Eastbound and westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike will be closed between SH-18 at Chandler and US377/SH-99 at Stroud from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday for the removal of Old Stroud Road bridge beams as part of an ongoing construction project, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority officials have announced.
Eastbound I-44/Turner Turnpike motorists must exit to SH-18 in Chandler to SH-66 to continue east toward Stroud during the closure.
Westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike motorists must exit at US-377/SH-99 at Stroud to SH-66 west to Chandler.
The Stroud and Chandler service plazas also will be closed during this time, they said.
Reconstructing Old Stroud Rd. bridge is part of a more than $8.3 million project to add a two-way frontage road between Old Stroud Rd./N. 3550 Rd. and SH-99/N. Eighth Ave.
Other work includes reconstructing W. Seventh St. between Old Stroud Rd. west toward the turnpike service plaza near Ozark Trail Rd. Additionally, shoulder improvements will be made on the I-44/Turner Turnpike later in the project, which is expected to complete by the end of 2024.
This project is in preparation of the upcoming reconstruction of the Stroud service plaza area and the future widening of the I-44/Turner Turnpike corridor, which is a part of the ACCESS Oklahoma long-range plan, officials said.
