The Chandler Junior High Student Council held its annual Veterans Day contests to honor veterans in the community, according to advisor Pam Anderson.
Students in the fifth and sixth grades at Park Road Elementary were invited to participate in a card contest, where they designed cards that will be given to veterans during the luncheon at the Route 66 Interpretive Center on Nov. 11. Anderson said first place winners won $25 and second place winners received $20.
In the fifth grade category, Ava Ericksen won first place and Violet Williams won second place. In the sixth grade category, Emma Mooy won first place and Maddox Andis won second.
Students at Chandler Junior High were invited to participate in the poetry and art contest, with each winner winning $75. The winner of the art contest is Sophie Ready (8th grade) and the winner of the poetry contest is Aubri Murray (8th grade).
The contests were sponsored by BancFirst in Chandler.
