Four FFA students from Wellston have received various recognitions from the Oklahoma FFA Association, according to press releases from the organization.
Jett Golightly, Hayden Green and Kaden James have been nominated for the State FFA Degree, which is the highest degree of active membership. It is awarded to high school senior members of FFA who have “demonstrated outstanding supervised agricultural experience programs and leadership skills,” according to the release.
So far, only 801 FFA students out of more than 30,000 have advanced through the Discovery, Greenhand and Chapter Degrees to receive the State FFA Degree.
Green has also been selected as a state finalist in Swine Production-Placement, another release said. Three finalists are selected in 47 agricultural proficiency award categories. Finalists receive a plaque, cash award and an honors luncheon.The state winner will go one to represent Oklahoma FFA in the national FFA competition in the fall in Indianapolis.
Kirbey McConnell has been selected to receive a scholarship to attend the Washington Leadership Conference programinWashington, D.C., in June. The conference sees over 2,300 FFA members from around the county. They are challenged to grow their leadership skills by learning how to solve local problems, build relationships, develop character and serve others, the release said.
Students who will receive the State FFA Degree and state finalists will be announced at the 100th State FFA Convention atArvest Convention Center and BOKArena in Tulsa from May 5 to 6. More than 10,000 students from around the state are expected to attend, the press release said.
The conference will include workshops and presentations by educational and motivational speakers. They will also recognize the top teams in the state career development events; naming the State Stars in Production, Agribusiness, Agriscience and Placement; and the election of the 2026-27 state FFA officer team. There is also an Agricultural Career Show and Agriscience Fair.
