Woman charged with exploiting elderly

A bench warrant has been issued for a Stroud woman for one felony count of the exploitation of an elderly person.

District Attorney Adam Panter filed the charge on May 12 against Mary Samantha Vineyard, 42, of Stroud. According to court documents, on or between March 2 and March 26, Vineyard allegedly obtained bank account information belonging to an elderly man of at least 62 years of age and transferred funds “with the intent to permanently deprive the elderly person of the use of the bank account while the defendant stood in a position of trust with the elderly person.”

The count, exploitation of an elderly person or disabled adult by deception or intimidation, is a Class B1 felony that is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and/or up to 15 years imprisonment. It carries four years to life with two or more prior felony convictions, according to court documents.

In a supplemental information filing, Panter reported that Vineyard has two previous convictions. On March 11, 2015, she was convicted of larceny from a house, and on April 17, 2017, she was convicted of grand larceny.
