Criminal cases reset for summer

Hearings for several defendants charged with felonies in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties reportedly have been moved to coming months due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Joseph Carl Corum, 20, faces two charges of child abuse. His wife, Mina Starr Arnold, 19, is charged with two counts of enabling child abuse.

They were formally charged in Lincoln County District in January.

They are the Prague parents accused of abusing their twins who were born in November.

Special Judge Emily Mueller continued Corum’s preliminary hearing that was set for April 30 to 1:30 p.m. on June 5.

Mueller also continued Starr’s preliminary hearing for the same date and time.

Justin James McHone, 38, and Tara Kay Gentry, 42, from the Harrah area are each charged with instigating/encouraging cockfight; keeping place/equipment/facility for cockfighting; and 86 counts of owning/possessing/keeping/ train bird for fighting.

Those charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court in Chandler in January.

A pre-preliminary hearing for McHone is now set for 1:30 p.m. July 2. Gentry is scheduled for a reappearance at 1 p.m. next Monday, May 18, court records show.

Becky Dawn Hutchinson of Agra faces a felony count of Cruelty to Animals. According to court records, a pre-preliminary hearing for her has been moved to 1:30 p.m. July 2.

She was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court in January.

A former Wellston educator was charged Lincoln County District Court in February with two felonies. Robert Doyle Blankenship faces one count each of sexual battery and blackmail.

His pre-preliminary hearing has been scheduled now for 1:30 p.m. on June 4.

A longtime Shawnee veterinarian who resides in Lincoln County was charged in late December in Pottawatomie County District Court with six felonies and a misdemeanor.

Court records show that Michael Lee Steward faces one count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, five sexual battery counts and one misdemeanor battery charge.

Steward was scheduled for a pre-preliminary hearing docket last week on May 5. In checking with Pottawatomie County Court Clerk Valerie Ueltzen on Monday of this week, she said the court minute hadn’t yet been provided her from that proceeding.
