Meeker: Valedictorians, salutatorian

Officials at Meeker High School announced the Valedictorians and Salutatorian for the 2021 graduating class. Four students maintained grade point averages throughout their high school years to merit the title of Valedictorian. They are Kaycee Babek, Connor Benn, Cade Patterson and Callie Sellers. Kade Brewster earned the honor of being named Salutatorian.

Kaycee Babek

Kaycee Babek, the daughter of Jeff and Jennifer Babek, has attended Meeker Schools since prekindergarten.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. She was awarded the Vision Bank Academic Letter Jacket and received various STEM awards for excellence in science, technology, engineering and math.

In addition to her scholastic achievements, Kaycee was named to the Academic All Conference teams in both softball and basketball in 2019. In fast pitch softball, she made the All-Conference, All--District and All-Regional teams. She served on the yearbook staff and was also involved in Student Council and Indian Club.

Kaycee has served her community by helping at blood drives, packing and organizing clothes for Wesleyan Foster Care and working concessions for Little League basketball games.

Following graduation, she plans to study and play softball at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid before attending a university and on to medical school. She would also like to start a family and travel as much as possible.

Connor Benn

Connor Benn is the son of Martin and Trina Benn and has attended Meeker Schools for five years.

He has maintained his 4.0 grade point average while taking concurrent college courses through Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla. He is a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society and an Academic Letter Jacket recipient. He was named Outstanding Student in Horticulture I and II, Intro to Agri-Science and Art I.

Connor’s leadership abilities have been evident while serving as president, reporter and sentinel for his Future Farmers of America chapter; vice president of Student Council; and sophomore class vice president, junior class president and senior class treasurer.

Connor’s multiple awards and achievements include the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma State Finalist and Area Champion in Chemistry, and American Farmers and Ranchers State Speech Senior Science Finalist. He earned first place in Animal Science at the Prague Invitational Speech Contest in 2020.

He has given back to the community through blood drives, high school concessions, and the Veterans Day Assembly and Lunch. He participated in Stamp Out Starvation, Thanksgiving Food Drives and community beautification.

Connor has been employed during his high school years at Rainbow Fuel Stop and currently works at Meeker Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician’s assistant.

Cade Patterson

Cade Patterson is the son of Len and Shana Sellers.

He has attended Meeker Schools since sixth grade and maintained perfect attendance. He completed college preparatory classes in Physics, Language and Composition, United States History, World History and Chemistry.

He has been in the Preengineering Academy at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla., for three years and currently serves as vice president. In addition to the high school curriculum, Patterson has taken concurrent classes through Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla., and Rose State College.

His academic efforts have earned him several scholarships - Oklahoma’s Promise, Cowboy Covenant, Academic Excellence, Winona S. Presley Scholarship and the Gail and Lil Fenderson Endowed Scholarship.

He was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and is a member of the Oklahoma and National Honor Societies and the National Technical Honor Society. He is a member of the Quiz Bowl Team and received the Academic Letter Jacket.

Cade’s athletic involvement includes basketball, baseball and cross-country, serving as basketball team captain for two years. Other extracurricular activities include Academic Team, Aeronautics Team, Robotics Team and Student Council.

His community service includes food drives and helping with Christmas for those in need. He shares his skills by coaching Little League Baseball and helped with local holiday celebrations. Cade is involved in the Meeker First Baptist Church youth group.

During high school, Cade worked at The Shed and currently works at Rainbow Fuel Stop. Following graduation, he plans to study aerospace or mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater with the goal of working at his dream job and having a wife and family.

Callie Sellers

Callie Sellers, the daughter of Michael and Ashley Sellers, has attended Meeker Schools since second grade. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was chosen to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors.

An Academic Letter Jacket recipient, she has been named Biology Student of the Year and received various STEM Standout Awards for excellence in science, technology, engineering and math.

Callie has been active in sports throughout high school, participating in cross-country and track and field, fast and slowpitch softball and basketball. She was named All-District in softball, was a state qualifier in track and cross-country, and Academic All-Conference in cross-country, fast-pitch softball and basketball.

She also participated in Student Council and Indian Club and served on the yearbook staff.

Callie was involved in the community through blood drives and food drives. She worked concessions for middle school games and helped out with various duties at the Little League basketball tournament. She made Christmas cards to cheer the residents at the Meeker Nursing Home and picked up trash monthly for MHS campus cleanup.

After graduation, she will attend Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., with a major in biology. She plans to run on the cross-country and track team. Her goal is to apply for medical school and eventually start a family.

Kade Brewster

Salutatorian Kade Brewster is the son of Leslie Brewster and the late JC Brewster. He has attended Meeker Schools for six years.

He was named Top Student in Algebra II and Precalculus and was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. He is a member of the Oklahoma and National Honor Societies. Kade also served on the Student Council.

He played on the MHS varsity basketball and baseball teams, achieving All-Conference in basketball. The Shawnee News Star named him a nominee for Basketball Player of the Year.

Kade served the Meeker community by helping out with blood drives and shopping for families in need at Christmas. He volunteered at the Meeker Pumpkin Festival and kept books for Meeker Little League games.

Following graduation, Kade plans to further his education by attending college with a major in accounting.
