Spring has sprung in Stroud, Oklahoma. Thank you to Nissa Hughes, Vivian Henshaw, Julie Bivin and Andrea Thompson for painting bicycles and planting flowers to give our Main Street that look that says, “Welcome to our town.” These ladies put in many late-night hours to make this all come together. Be sure and say thank you when you see them. Also, thank you to all the organizations, individuals and families who helped Town Talk begin to put flowers back downtown. When we started this project several years ago, pots were sponsored for $100, and with the donation Town Talk bought the pots, flowers, and signs to denote who were sponsoring them. Sponsors would then donate an additional $40 dollars each year for the flowers. Last year we had enough money to purchase the flowers without having to ask for a yearly donation. This year City Manager Bob Pearman received a grant to make the continuation of this project possible. Our pots were starting to show their age, and it was time to replace the signs that were weathered and worn. Receiving this grant came at just the right time. Town Talk cannot thank each of you enough who supported this project. You were our beginning and Stroud Main Street continues to look welcoming thanks to your initial contributions.
April has ended on a quiet note but today kicks off the month of May and it will be full of end-ofyear school activities. Additional runs were scored by Gideon (3), Gage Bailey (1), Rhyss Pennock (1), Logan Neuman (2) and Lane Day (1). The Tigers defeated the Red Devils 8-1. Leelyn Neunam pitched against the Wellston Tigers. Leelyn gave up three hits and one run over four innings. He walked two and had six strikeouts. Scoring runs for the Tigers were Gideon (1), Lane (2), Gage (2), Leelyn (1), Rhyss (1), Beau Ackerman (1), and Logan (1). Wellston went down in defeat 9-1. The Tigers ended their season undefeated. Congratulations to Head Coach Nick Hoover and his assistants and the Tiger baseball team on a stellar season.
Congratulations to the Stroud High School Softball Team. They won the 2025 District Championship. Also, congratulations to the Stroud Boys Golf Team. Jett Cooper placed first, and the team placed eighth at last week’s Cushing Golf Tournament.
Town Talk sends condolences to the family of (Patricia) Pat NeeSmith. Pat moved to Stroud around the age of nine and graduated from Stroud High School in 1967. Her parents, Francis and Mary NeeSmith, ran the Time Theater on Main Street in Stroud for many years. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and also her siblings, who were all Stroud High School graduates, Joey, Gilda, and (John) Johnny. I’m sure many of you remember the NeeSmith family.
