If you’re a baseball fan, the season is in “full swing”, pun intended. The Stroud High School Tiger Baseball Team has a busy schedule this week. They traveled to Oktaha on Monday night to play another Tiger team. They played at home Tuesday night against the Sasakwa Vikings. Their game scheduled for Thursday night against the Morris Eagles has been cancelled. Friday night they travel to Warner to take on the Warner Eagles and return home to play a double-header in Stroud on Saturday. I’ll see you at the ballfield.

August and Lincoln played in a baseball tournament this past weekend in Midwest City. Another Stroud kiddo, Greyson Hubbard, is also on the team. The three play for Performance Baseball. They played two “pool” games on Saturday, and one tournament game on Sunday. August received the outstanding player award for his play in the two games on Saturday. August and Greyson spent time on the mound on Saturday and pitched four strike-outs between them. On Sunday Lincoln was on the pitcher’s mound and August was behind the plate playing catcher. It was fun watching the two work in tandem. August then relieved Lincoln on the plate. Between the two of them they claimed four strike-outs. The team will travel to Choctaw this weekend for another tournament My dear friend, Shirley Kennard McCammon, celebrated her birthday last week. Shirley and I were classmates and graduated together in 1974. I can’t tell you how old she is because then you’d know how old I am but if you learned anything in Bill Davis’s math class, you can put two and two together. I know Shirley is an avid Stroud Citizen reader so here’s a “Happy Belated Birthday” shout-out to her. I hope she had a fabulous day and that Barry treated her like the queen she is. Another life-long Stroud alum friend of mine, Janet Place Huwar, continues to need your prayers. After returning home from the rehabilitation center, she suffered a setback and had to be re-admitted to the hospital in Houston. Please continue to pray for Janet. She is a loyal Tiger and loves her hometown. Her husband Tom tells me Janet feels all the love we are sending her way.

Former Stroud First National Bank loan officer Danny Winchester passed away on February 24th. Danny had a 43-year career in the banking industry and began that career in Stroud before moving to Prague National which later became Vision Bank. He grew up in Prague, graduating from Prague High School before joining the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife Debbie along with their two sons and their families. Town Talk offers its condolences to Danny’s family and friends and also to the Prague community who have lost several community members in recent weeks.

The pavilion at the cemetery is almost completed. It is going to be such a nice and needed addition. Stroud has many things to be proud of and the care and attention we give our cemetery is one of those at the top of the list. Our community not only cares about its citizens but also about those loved ones and community members who are buried in Stroud. They are gone but not forgotten. Thank you to Bob Pearman and his City crew for all their hard work.

Once again, just a reminder to go spend a little “green” with our local merchants as St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. Easter is fast approaching and will be here the first Sunday in April, April 5th. As I like to say, “Things are hopping in Stroud, Oklahoma,” so as always, thank you for continuing to shop and dine local………….first!
