Town Talk

Would you enjoy having Olive Garden for lunch without having to leave town? Well, you’re going to get that opportunity. Join Town Talk and the American Legion Auxiliary for lunch on Sunday, February 5th beginning at noon. We will serve until 2:30 p.m. or until we are sold out. For a $20 donation you may enjoy salad, lasagna, bread sticks, dessert and a drink. Children through fifth grade will be treated to a spaghetti lunch free of charge when accompanied by a parent. All profits from this event will go towards our Route 66 Bugle Boy statue which will honor our veterans. You may purchase tickets from any Auxiliary or Town Talk member or at Unique OK or Stroud Dry Cleaners. There will be a limited number of lunches available so be sure to pre-purchase your tickets. Dine in or take-out are both available options. It’s going to be an Italian luncheon you won’t want to miss. Ciao!

I attended another first-grade basketball game on Saturday. We were defeated by Bethel but our tiny Tigers put up a good fight and gave us a great show. A big Town Talk shout-out to Beau and Toyie Hubbard for volunteering to coach these kiddos. They give up Saturday mornings for this activity and also coach a grade school girls’ team as well. Town Talk appreciates and thanks all volunteers in our community sports’ programs for giving of their time to teach our young people. We will travel to Davenport this Saturday to challenge the Bulldogs.

Stroud has lost several classmates over the last several days; Mary Bunyard Poskey, Class of 1961, Renee Fowler Senior, Class of 1986 and Danny Williams, Class of 1973.

For obituary information please refer to the Stroud Alumni Association Facebook page. Town Talk expresses condolences to each of these families. Dean Criess, Class of 1960, passed away in June of 2022 in Massachusetts. When we began selling veteran’s banners for Main Street Dean bought one to hang here in his hometown. His family were long-time residents of Stroud and he took pride in that. He died from complications from Agent Orange which he was exposed to when he was in the Viet Nam War. Dean was a Green Beret for twenty years, was a proud veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. His wife, Leslie Seidel Criess, recently donated to Stroud’s Bugle Boy in Dean’s memory. It is heart-warming when our graduates remember their hometown with love.

Stroud’s newest Route 66 attraction, Spirit of America – Route 66 Museum is close to opening. Owner Steve Brant has set March 31st as its opening date. I think Stroud and all visitors to our community are in for a treat when they visit the museum.
