Congratulations to the Stroud High School Band. They recently participated in the State Band Contest and earned excellent ratings on stage in Class 3A. They also earned excellent and good ratings in sight reading. It’s just another reason to be Stroud Tiger proud.

Town Talk offers condolences to the family of Ralph Jones. Ralph passed away on March 20, 2024, in Stroud. He attended Stroud Public Schools. He was married to Sandy Jones, and they would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this year. His children are Chad Jones, Mark Jones, Steve Gilbert, and Kim Gilbert. Ralph will be missed by the Stroud community but especially at the yearly alumni celebration. He loved to dance and was famous for his “Jonesy Shovel.” If you needed a dance partner at the alumni dance, you could count on Ralph to swing you around the dance floor.

One of Lincoln County’s finest residents, Major General Don Ferrell went home to heaven on March 15, 2024. I have known Don and Sally for as long as I can remember. He was our District’s State Senator from 1966 to 1974.

During his tenure as Senator Pam Poskey and I had the privilege of serving as two of his Senate pages. I remember walking the Senate hallways announcing “Senate Roll Call” telling the Senators it was time to get to the Senate Chamber for a vote. It was a wonderful experience and I appreciated Senator Ferrell allowing me to serve. When I graduated from high school, Don and Sally gave me a gold Cross pen. I loved owning that pen. It made me feel grown-up to own a “real” pen and I cherished it because it came from the Ferrells, and he was my Senator. Over the years I have asked for advice and opinions from the Ferrells because they stood for the same values and principles in which I believe. As I age into being the “older generation,” I will miss having Don’s example of how to live life – God, family, and country. Town Talk offers its deepest condolences to Sally, Cindy and his entire family.

The Stroud Middle School baseball team played in a tournament in Wellston this past week. The Tigers won their way to the championship game on Saturday. They came up short in this final game by a score of 1-0 against a solid Oakdale team. The Tiger team just keeps getting better and better.

They will play at home Thursday, April 4th against Chandler. The High School Tigers baseball team will compete in the Route 66 Conference Tournament April 4th-6th. Please call the high school for more details on this tournament.
