Baseball is in full spring. The High School Tigers, both junior varsity and varsity, will travel to Prague on Thursday, April 11th, to take on the Prague Red Devils with a start time of 4:30 p.m. If you haven’t been to Prague’s field, it’s nice and new and easily accessible with great seats. Thursday night would be a fun time to check it out and cheer on the Tigers.

On Friday, April 12th, they play in Beggs against the Demons with a start time of 5:00 p.m. Next Monday and Tuesday they will travel to Minco and Dale, respectively, and plan to bring home a couple of wins against the Bulldogs and Pirates.

The Middle School Tigers baseball team will compete in the Wetumka Tournament on April 11th – 13th. They will travel to Chandler to play the Lions on Monday April 15th with a start time of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday night they will take on the Cashion Wildcats here in Stroud beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Tigers will then compete against the Kellyville Ponies on Thursday, April 19th at Kellyville at 5:00 p.m.

The Middle School track team has a meet in Cashion on April 11th and in Stroud on April 13th. If you need additional information on any of these activities, you may contact Elizabeth Lau at the high school or Lou Cooper at the middle school. My column does not contain a full list of school activities but only the ones of which I am aware so please contact these ladies for more details.

The McCammon/Hubbard 8U coachpitch baseball team traveled to Carney Monday night for their first baseball game of the season. The Tigers took home the win against the Bulldogs with a score of 14-1. August hit a home run, so he was thrilled about that.

The Tigers roster includes Ezekiel Hyde, Greyson Hubbard, Jackson Looney, Jaxon Beck, Jordy Davis, Lincoln Smalley, Maddox Thompson, Mason McCammon, Mudd Prerry, Owen Hentges, Wyatt Donaldson, and August Smalley. Most of these boys have played on the same team since their t-ball days. It is so fun to watch how much they have learned and improved over the years.

Local ballers Cal Shields, son of Nathan and Amy Shields and Gideon Smalley, son of Jason and C’Anne Smalley. played baseball in a tournament this past weekend in Stillwater with their traveling team, the Sandlots. Gideon scored in separate games, two over-thefence home runs while he and Cal both hit balls to the fence to score doubles. Cal also pitched in one of the games and did an outstanding job. Stroud has always been known for cultivating some of the best athletes and the legacy continues.

A few weeks ago, the Stroud Chamber of Commerce held their yearly banquet where they presented various community awards. This year’s Mickey Gaines Mentorship Award was presented to Leon and Vivian Henshaw. Business of the Year was presented to AVEM Health Partners/Stroud Regional Medical Center. Julie Bivin received the Citizen of the Year and Dr. Tim Moore was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

All these recipients were very deserving. Julie is a valued member of our Town Talk volunteer group, so we want to give her a shout-out for all the projects she works on for the community.

Stroud’s City-Wide Garage Sale is just around the corner so it’s time to start cleaning out the closets and cupboards and sign up today to participate. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop and dine local…………first!
