Life in the fast lane

Pat and I kept our grandson overnight last week to give our daughter Meghan and her husband Terry an opportunity to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

They were married six years ago in early December but hadn’t been able to celebrate their anniversary.

Our grandson Liam, nearing 3½ years old, is a busy little boy.

For Christmas we had gotten him one of these motorized cars that he can drive and he really seems to enjoy it.

It goes up to 2.5 miles per hour. And he likes to drive it that fast, too, I assure you.

Because of various reasons, we hadn’t had a chance to keep him overnight for quite a while. He’s growing some of course and there’s lots little things changing with him.

He loves to be in the outdoors and play in our big, fenced in backyard. Fortunately, we had good weather when he stayed with us so we spent a lot of time outside.

It was a little cool, but nothing that a hoodie or jacket wouldn’t handle.

Pat’s all about taking photos and videos of him as he drives his new little car around and plays with various things.

We have two old dog pens that are together in the backyard and in one of those we have a wheel barrow and it’s where we have our wood for the fireplace. He loves that wheel barrow, mainly for him to get in it and then I push him around the yard.

When I ask him are we through, his normal response is “no,” which means for me to keep pushing.

He likes to help me load the firewood or take it up on the patio closer so when we need it we can just grab it.

But what he likes to do most probably in the backyard, besides drive his new car, is to take an old fire place shovel he discovered about a year ago that we have on the patio. He shovels dirt in a bucket and then empties it on the patio or he just shovels up the dirt and puts it on the patio.

After a while, when we think that’s enough dirt, and we get a broom, he of course has to grab it and sweep off the dirt. This past summer, when it was really warm, he used the hose to wash it off and others things as well.

He’s too young to understand why he can’t get the hose out and do that now.

Until he tires down some and wants to go inside for a while we don’t sit much. But that’s all right.

He’s a joy to have around and we’re grateful he wants to stay with us.
