Town Talk

Town Talk is staying busy, as usual, working to “spruce up” our community. We are currently working on banners for Main Street, a canopy for the playground area in Foster Park and some decorative touches to the courtyard.

I’ll post more information as it becomes available.

As soon as our last truckload of flowerpots arrives, we will put the final stamp on the Pavilion rest room project. We will be holding our second Downtown Stroud – Spruce Up, Clean Up meeting later this month so watch this column for details.

We still have a few Stroud Tiger license plates for sale. They come in two styles, “Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger” and “Stroud Tigers.” They are $20. If you want me to mail one to you the cost is $28.40. You may order one on Facebook or call me at 918-527-9833.

Our next Farmer’s Market will be held on Sat urday, August 15th from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The markets have been successful, and it has been great seeing so much activity on Main Street.

The Pavilion is a great place to hold community events and we are happy to see it being used. Downtown businesses need to think of ideas to bring activity downtown and get visitors passing through to stop and look around. The Treasure Box held a Saturday market there this past weekend and it was well attended. Thank you to Michelle Whitson, down town business owner, for putting this together.

I spent last week in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and went to three Farmer’s Markets in Little Rock. I read about them in a local magazine. They sounded interesting so I thought I’d check them out.

Our market right here in Stroud, OK was as nice as any of the three I visited. Come out on the 15th and see what it’s all about.

School will be starting this next week and I know three little boys who are ready to get started. Lincoln, my youngest greatnephew, starts Pre-K this year so my seven years of babysitting is sadly coming to an end.

I am already experiencing “empty baby-sitters nest” syndrome. I’ll still be in Stroud during the week though, working on Town Talk activities and answering the phone for the Stroud American.

If you have an idea for Town Talk to help our community or have a newspaper question, please contact me or if you just want to discuss ideas for your business or our community, I’d love to visit with you.

Be sure and check out our local merchants for all your back-to-school needs. We need to continue supporting our businesses and services.

The way we grow is to support what we already have available. Have a great week and remember to “shop and dine” local first...
