Braxton Bussell and Riley Randall put an exclamation point on the season-opening cross country meet at Stroud Saturday.
The Meeker juniors finished first and second, with Bussell running ahead the entire race and winning the hardware with a time of 10:43.
Randall, the defending state champion, finished second with a clocking of 11:06.
“Braxton came to the meet very focused and then he maintained his focus the whole race,” said Meeker coach Brady Dukes. “He ran like a focused competitor.
“He has improved so much - I’m very proud of him and happy to see him get his first race win, especially at this distance.”
Bussell and Randall paced the Bulldogs to a team win, the third in the school’s history.
“I love the competitiveness,” Dukes said. “They push each other. that just shows.
“It was a very successful start for our program,” Dukes said. “Five medals was impressive. We ran like a veteran team.”
“All the preparation the last three weeks paid off and they were ready to go.”
