Despite what McLoud Coach Rusty Hall called a “great defensive effort,” the Redskins fell to Anadarko last week 20-7.
McLoud will square off in a home contest against Perkins Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The Redskins, with five starters out due to injury still, are 1-6 overall.
Hall said last Thursday’s contest was “Military Appreciation Night,” and that junior wide receive Coby Cardin was sworn into the National Guard in pre-game activities. Cardin will spend next summer in training with the National Guard and then return to school in the fall for his senior year, Hall explained.
“We were leading 7-6 at halftime,” Hall said. “We kind of gave it away the second half.”
Hall said running back Kaiden Cue who also plays defense returned to the lineup for the first time since he was injured early in the Harrah contest. “He played a little on offense, but a whole lot on defense. He was probably our best defensive player,” he noted, adding they rotated him in on offense a little.
“We didn’t want him to go both ways being his first game back, but he was really great on defense,” the coach thinks.
Hall stressed, “Most of the guys we have hurt are probably done for the season. Ryland Hall-Norton and Clint Campbell would have a small chance of coming back.” Campbell, the Redskins’ top running back, has been out all season with a broken arm.
Wide receiver Hall-Norton has been out several games as well.
“Our big center, Shelton Hoover, had surgery this morning on his knee, Jace Mitchell, outside linebacker, dislocated his knee and is waiting on an MRI and Amare Gonzales, defensive end, rolled his ankle,” Hall added, pointing to the injuries.
The coach said the offense gave Anadarko a short field on its first two touchdowns.
Hall said, “We did score on a nine-yard TD pass from quarterback Kaden Carl to receiver Cardin and Conner Ryan kicked the point after and we led 7-6 at intermission.”
In the second half, the Redskins had a bad snap on a punt they fielded on their own two and then Anardako scored immediately. After a McLoud receiver caught a pass and fumbled, an Anadarko player recovered.
